Eugenio Gras: “Soil & Water Harvesting: Design with Permacultura & Keyline”

A Regenerative Design Pioneer in México

By Holger Hieronimi, Abril 2010 published in Linea Clave Mexico.

We can celebrate the first book published in Mexico since 1998, which makes direct reference to the concept of permaculture! So far, the collection of Alejandra Caballero (1) stands as the only title that incorporates the experiences at home. COAS now gives us this new publication entitled "Soil and Water Harvesting - Design with Permaculture and Keyline.

Its author is Eugene Gras, a pioneer of organic agriculture in Mexico and regenerative design. In summer 1995, Eugenio connected me with some of the first facilitators who at that time taught permaculture courses in the country (2). Shortly after he left for Australia, in order to deepen their knowledge (although there were few teachers and designers with

Transition Town El Manzano builds Community Centre

Green Building & the Permaculture Master Plan in Chile

El Manzano sets out to build a campus of the great reskilling, implementing a permaculture master plan, and a summer of bioconstruction. So ends a cycle of change, and another cycle begins.

Since 2009 we have been working on the plans to make El Manzano a world class centre for sustainable education that equips people with the values, knowledge and skills needed to make the transition from an unsustainable growth culture to resilient human communities. As we begin to attract more and more visitors students and interns our facilities are often found to be lacking, and not of a quality befitting a green campus.

A New Teaching & Learning Paradigm

Chile is in the midst of an education revolution!

So what does the new teaching and learning paradigm look like? What kind of learning experiences are transformative? What kind of institutions are equipping the leaders of today and tomorrow? How we 'teach' for sustainbility literacy?

Permaculture and Transition Towns...Doing it Real in Chile

Investing in Transition (Español)

Please Get Behind Our Efforts to Demonstrate Sustainable Development and Relief for Chile Quake/Tsunami Victims

Editor’s Preamble:

Permaculturists famously endeavour to ‘turn the problem into a solution’. At the moment we have a tremendous opportunity to apply this principle in wonderful, productive ways in disaster-hit Chile.

The quake-tsunami combo that hit on February 27, 2010 has created a void just begging for sustainable relief and re-development. Grifen Hope and Javiera Carrión of Ecoescuela El Manzano, a partner organisation to the Permaculture Research Institute, are well positioned to fill that void with all kinds of permaculture goodness – in the form of low-cost environmentally friendly buildings, improved sanitation and nutrient cycling through construction of composting toilets, water harvesting systems and in education in home garden design, etc.
